Using Sand to desicate Kombucha Leather?

Little question. I have my first slab of kombucha leather drying between two boards in my sunroom but it seems like it’s taking too long and the humidity of where I live seems to keep it fresh. I haven’t done it yet, but I speculate maybe keeping the leather inbetween some sand maybe speed up the process. Only concern is that is would be absorbed or do something to change the structure of the slab. Thanks!
